Hello Episode 3 of The Game of Wool! Holiday Week in the Yarn Barn saw the remaining knitters face intense pressure with crochet expert Janie Crow joining the judging panel.
The twelve hour solo brief was to create glamorous swimwear, demanding a fitted garment ready to be modelled by Tom Daleyâs Team GB diving friends. Lydia shone here, her knitted swimsuit with a lace middle panel being praised as a feat of engineering, proving the modernity of the craft. Holger also impressed with his sharp swim trunks and vest. The difficulty was the tight deadline and the tricky shaping required for a flattering fit, which caused issues for several contestants.

The main challenge was a mammoth eight hour effort; groups had to crochet a sturdy, holiday themed deckchair. This was a true test of engineering using just crochet. Ailsa and Simon delivered a flawless, festive sling that held up perfectly when Tom put it to the test. Lydiaâs consistently brilliant execution across both tasks earned her the coveted sheep baa-dge.

However, the pressure was immense. The most dramatic moment came when Issac and Holgerâs complex, high-stitch Intarsia design, despite looking clever, proved structurally unsound. In the ultimate test of strength, Tom Daley hit the ground sitting when he tried to use their chair!
The judges were looking for technical skill and structural integrity. Due to the failure of her deckchair (made with Dipti) and the episode’s focus on tricky crochet skills, we sadly had to say goodbye to Stephanie this week.
It was a brilliant week of high stakes holiday crafting, but certainly not a relaxing one! What will next week bring đ
