Book Club’s back for 2026 and a new year means new reads – yay! Whether you’re wanting to learn something new for the new year, rediscover an old hobby or simply carry on with one of your crafting passions, we’re always keen to offer a title that may spark both creativity and inspiration. With that in mind, let’s dive into our first pick, Making Luna Lapin by Sarah Peel.
Loved by many in the warehouse, Luna Lapin’s story is one that’s well-crafted in every sense of the word. Created and designed by Sarah Peel, Luna’s backstory is one that feels almost reminiscent of the quaint tales found in classic Beatrix Potter stories. Cited as almost a coming-of-age tale, as Luna’s dreams of heading to the big city to work ‘La Clairière magazine’ is peppered throughout the book, offering a quaint story alongside some truly beautiful pieces.
As for Luna’s creator and author of the book, Sarah Peel owns of CoolCrafting, where her personal and brand ethos encourages us to reuse and remake. Her younger years saw her passion for reworking and repurposing fabric and garments grow, setting up her own business down the line. Her journey’s been an interesting one, as stated on her website HERE. Thankfully for us all, her path has taken her to create CoolCrafting, where creativity and traditional skills are championed, leading to us talking about her wonderful book, today!

Making Luna Lapin will take you through the methods of making the rabbit herself, alongside 20 patterns to sew clothing and accessories – even Luna’s brother Alfie makes an appearance! The book invites sewers of all abilities to become inspired by Luna’s world, offering step-by-step instructions to guide both well-versed and beginner-level dressmakers to success, ensuring that everyone feels supported throughout the process.
As mentioned at the start of this month’s Book Club, Luna’s made quite the impression in the warehouse! Our Customer Services Managers, Adam and Paula, both have their versions of Luna nearby in the customer services office, alongside another pal from Sarah’s series of books – talk about squad goals!

Paula’s Luna features an outfit that’s perfect for working at the allotment! One of Paula’s true passions, it’s lovely that she’s included this in her own version of Luna’s story. When talking about what inspired her to make her own, Paula states:
“I just love her and her clothes, and have so enjoyed dressing her. Her outfit is for working at the allotment – I have made two others also, but they have been gifted to friends. My Luna is called Paula, as I see her an extension of myself and my passion for crafting, yet unlike me she is a bit of Diva and is known to get up to mischief!”
We can tell; she’s pesky in hiding in our shrubbery! All capers aside, she’s truly a lovely gift to sew for yourself or for others, much like Adam’s Luna that his mum made for him:
“Mine is called Percival; Percy for short! He was named after my great-granddad and made by my mum, who crafted him using fabrics from my stash. I’m a huge fan of Liberty Fabrics, so I love that she managed to use those scraps for his clothing and features. He sits on my desk at work, keeping me in good company! Knowing that my mum made it makes me very happy, and the time, effort and love that she’s put into Percy just really warms my heart. He’s something I’ll cherish for years to come.”

Both lovely stories, and it just goes to show how cherished makes are! Making Luna Lapin is just the beginning of a wonderful world of whimsy. No doubt we’ll be revisiting Luna’s pals in a future Book Club, as with three other titles continuing the series, there’s plenty of world-building and inspiration to be had.
