With teacups filled to the brim, white rabbits hopping around and party hats well and truly on, it’s time to head through the looking glass as we explore Hello Alice from Ruby Star Society!

There are many times in our supplier meetings that fabric collections are an instant yes, and Hello Alice made that hypothetical gavel slam down quicker than most! Much like many of you, we’re big fans of Ruby Star Society in the warehouse and this collection feels like it perfectly encapsulates what this wonderful house of designers does so well.

Sarah Watts is at the helm for Hello Alice; an illustrator who’s well-celebrated in the fabric world, as her collaborations under the collective of Ruby Star Society are full of whimsy. Much like other fantastic designers such as Rashida Coleman-Hale, Melody Miller and more, Sarah Watts always comes through with wonderfully executed concepts, whilst showcasing her own style and individuality.

When talking about the inspiration for the collection, Alice’s story has always been something that Sarah’s wanted rework and add her own flair to. Moda further states via their catalogue:

“In Hello Alice you’ll find all the makings of a tea party, stacks of pages and books, fields of chatty flowers, and hares running out of time. If you look closely you’ll see a few surprises too!

Sarah aimed to highlight all of the whimsical nature of the story while giving it her own narrative twist. Hello Alice also features a more vibrant and modern color palette that fits right in with Ruby Star Society.”

The details within the collection really are the champions here; even the Falling Aces blender stands strong on its own, alongside its role as a pillar to the rest of the collection. The nods to the original that are peppered throughout both Tea Party and Rabbit Hole work so well, managing to keep the essence of the story present, as well as leaving room for Sarah’s own artistic, and modernised, interpretations.

As for precuts, the Wonderland panel offers vignettes of memorable moments, alongside fun, playing card style blocks for you to cut up and play around with. To take you even further down the rabbit hole, Ruby Star even have a free quilt pattern for further inspiration! Using the collection and said accompanying panel, the Hello Alice quilt brings a timeless feel even with this somewhat modernised rework. You can view and download the free quilt pattern HERE.

Hello Alice is certainly a collection to make you smile, offering a sense of nostalgia to the present and every day. To view the full collection and the Wonderland panel, simply click HERE.
