Whatever the department in the warehouse, there’s always a fair few of us that gather round in the Fabric Room whenever a Liberty Fabrics range drops, and this one was no exception. Evoking summer perfectly, our second pick of the month was an easy choice with Riviera.

As proudly stated from their original lookbook, the Riviera collection “takes us on a tour of the British coastline”. Never one to let us down, Liberty Fabrics have certainly done just that. We can smell the seasalt in the air, already!
Not only have they managed to encapsulate the magic of those past sunny days by the sea by featuring beach huts, sailing motifs and seaside treasures, the designs host a wide range of history, too.
Stunning florals are what many think of when Liberty Fabrics come to mind, yet it’s always astonishing to put in perspective just how far back some of their iconic prints go. Therefore, it’s no surprise that Riviera was just another collection to host some of those classic prints for the modern day.
Seaside Bloom, Coastal Flowers, Summer Meadow and many others within the collection were originally created back in the early to mid-thirties, while designs such as Sun Parasol and Deckchair Stripe were featured in other colourways back in the mid-seventies and early eighties.
Even with the prints created solely for Riviera, it’s clear to see the dedication and vision that Liberty Fabrics put into marrying vintage and modern designs together, forever creating a strong collection that never fails to bring joy to any quilter.
I’ve managed to get her out from hiding behind the fat quarters – YAY! Francesca is back to show some of her favourites and we can’t argue with her on this one.
For Riviera, she’s chosen Wildflower Poppy in Blue, the very cute and quaint beach huts in Sunny Days Blue, and rounds out her top three with Corallium in Blue.
Riviera’s certainly got Francesca smiling and dreaming of those summer days next to the rolling waves.
We’ll grab the bucket and spade and meet you at the beach…

As you may have seen, things can get a bit precarious for Fabric Focus and, although we’re keen on getting those shots, we’re always sure to keep our bolts of fabric as safe as can be. So on those days when I need Francesca’s help, we can’t help but bring you a little behind the scenes!
We couldn’t resist not featuring some of these flowers we found around the warehouse; we had some fun picking those and they certainly helped cheer up the fabric room when we popped them in a vase, too.

Don’t forget, you can always check the full collection HERE – there’s plenty to discover, and we hope you’ve enjoyed another summery edition of Fabric Focus!
Have you made anything with Liberty Fabrics’ Riviera? If so, we’d love to see! Share your makes using #WWMakes and we’ll share some of our favourites.
As much as we’d love to pack a picnic and get our feet in the sand, there’s work to do! See you next time, crafters!
