Hello September!
I hope you’re all keeping very well and crafty; we’re still loving seeing all of your projects in progress, so make sure to keep sending those our way. I’m having to continue to hide one of my current WIPs, but much like many of you out there, there’s always another few WIPs to choose from…SIGH!
I’ve only done a few rows more, so I thought rather than showing you in a less than picturesque place in my house, I’d post a little throwback pic instead!
My partner and I have been to Sydney, Australia a couple of times now, and we love bringing some bits home to remind us of our trips. We’re a sucker for an ugly magnet, but sometimes I like to make a little memento as well.
I’m hoping that by posting this, it will inspire me to get some stitches done for it to quickly go up on the travel wall – I’ve got everything crossed!
Whilst I can have a little dream of Sydney views, I’m also hoping it will bring a little more of what we’re owed on the sunshine quota! Yet the month also brings the excitement of the seasons changing, cosier evenings and the want to hunker down with those WIPs.
For me and countless others around the globe, September kicks off Twilight season and my picks this month reflect that more than Edward Cullen standing in the sun. I’d be quite happy to live the entire month seeing things through Catherine Hardwicke’s iconic blue filter, but I don’t think that would be great for colour matching!
I’ve been a fan of the series since I was seventeen and again, unlike Edward, I’ve aged with the series to where I can enjoy both its high and low points – I think the what-could-have-been-in-the-movie-anamatronic-Renesmee still gives us all nightmares, right? But with this month’s picks, I’m taking us back to the very beginning where Bella and Edward first met.

It’s astonishing to think that Twilight is almost twenty years old and just how present it is, all these years later. The first novel follows Isabella Swan as she moves from Arizona to Forks Washington to live with her father.
Expecting the next chapter of her life to be as drab as the town she finds herself in, her assumptions are quickly flipped on their head when she meets the mysterious Edward Cullen.
Despite his hostility, Bella finds both her questions and attraction mounting for Edward. She has her suspicions, yet after saving her from a near-fatal accident with no logical explanation, Bella’s keen to discover who Edward really is.
While Bella’s appeared to have bitten off more than she can chew on her quest for the truth, can Edward find it within himself to fight the bite for the only person he’s ever loved?
🎙️ Podcast – Forkin ‘ell with Vic & Laura
This month’s podcast pick was a little closer to home as I’ve chosen one I just so happen to co-host…okay, okay, it’s a shameless plug, I know, but it had to be done!
My very good friend Laura and I host Forkin ‘ell – A Twilight Podcast, where we focus on a book and film from the series per season. Not only do we dissect many a topic, we have plenty of laughs along the way.
We’re open in sharing the things we love and don’t love so much, also sharing our history with the franchise. Laura and I aren’t short of a few stories either; many of which we’re excited to get to when it comes to Laura’s magazine interview with Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, my experience with some surprise guests at events and even a quiz for you to play along with.
We’re currently on hiatus, but there’s plenty to get through with 22 episodes covering all things Twilight AND New Moon. We’ll hopefully keep you in good company between rows!
đź’ż Album – Twilight Soundtrack – Various Artists
For what was initially perceived and marketed as an indie movie, there sure are some big names featured on the Twilight Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Paramore, Linkin Park and Muse feature, along with a couple of songs from Robert Pattinson – sadly, Never Think and Let Me Sign are no longer available to stream. Yet if you can dig out and dust off your original copy of the CD, you’ll be able to listen to them on there. Otherwise, thank God for YouTube!
The music is just another reason why the film sticks in the mind – hence the musical offerings from me on the homepage! My typing is better known as Eyes On Fire by Blue Foundation. Anyone who’s seen the memes or the movies will instantly recognise it, as it serves as a classic on the soundtrack.
If you’re wanting to take your love for Twilight that little bit further, there’s always a make to do so. For those other eagle-eyed viewers like me, I can’t help but want to make Angela’s blanket! Although only featured in one small scene when Bella, Angela and the gang arrive at La Push, everyone’s favourite friend’s crocheted blanket has certainly left a lasting impact.
Luckily for us all, the internet has done its thing and we’re able to make this one ourselves. LewKnitty has made a great pattern over on Ravelry from what we see on screen, and Ikoxun has a fantastic tutorial on how to make the blanket over on their YouTube channel, based on the actual blanket used in the film.
We’ve got you covered with 5mm crochet hooks and we suggest using Red Heart Super Saver to complete your project. It’s the same weight and tension as what’s featured in LewKnitty’s pattern, and with a wide range of colours, you can always head away from those blue hues if you wanted to!
