September is such a golden month, even on the Wool Warehouse HQ industrial estate. We’re eagerly watching the tree outside the office turn it’s autumnal shades of brilliant red and orange, the resident car park Robin is getting louder and bolder, and soon it will be time for the annual staff pumpkin carving contest. And of course, we have loads of new fabric to round up to kick off cosy season!
New Designs from Kaffe and Co.
First in this month were some stand out new prints we picked out from the Kaffe Fassett Collective Autumn 2024 release. Kaffe’s re-imagined ‘Folk Flower‘ design is complemented by a new ‘Bloomers‘ floral print from Brandon Mably and striking new ‘Ammonites’ and ‘Urchin‘ nature designs from Philip Jacobs.

Kaffe’s love for scrappy quilts inspired him to produce printed fabrics that he wanted to use in his own creations. For several years, he was the sole artist, hand-painting his designs, until he brought in Philip’s detailed large scale florals, and Brandon’s whimsical modern prints.

What really sets these fabric collections apart is the intentional mis-match of colour, pattern and scale. Kaffe wanted his fabrics to look as though they were happened upon in a charity shop, perfect for making the scrappy quilts that inspired him from the beginning. These new prints will blend seamlessly with other designs from the collective, and thanks to the lighter weight of Kaffe’s base fabric, can also work really for garments.
Fairy Dust
The beginning of Autumn feels quite magical, so the September arrival of Makower’s fairytale collection is perfectly timed! ‘Fairy Dust’ transports you to a faraway land full of magical adventures with fairy friends, mystical unicorns, whimsical toadstools and trailing florals, all in a fun explosion of bright colours.

This collection also includes a new ‘Rainbow Hues’ ombre design with a dazzling colour spectrum running across the full width of the fabric. This could be cleverly used as an ombre binding for a quilt, a striking border or backing, or on it’s own as a feature (how cool would an ombre top or bag be!)

Groovy Floral
Last but not least, this lovely little collection from Craft Cotton Co is bringing some late summer glow to the fabric room. ‘Groovy Floral’ showcases retro 60s and 70s inspired floral prints in warm sunset shades of pink, orange, yellow and lilac. Perfect for a vintage style patchwork project, a groovy garment, or a granny chic project bag.

Halloween
It’s coming, and there’s still time to whip up a spooky project! Check out Vic’s fave fabric picks for the season like Ruby Star Society’s fun and classy ‘Good Spirits‘ and Lewis and Irene’s glow-in-the-dark ‘Haunted House‘ prints. We also have some new bits from Moda, including the very gothic ‘Noir‘ by Alli K, and some extremely cute designs from ‘Hey Boo‘ by Lella Boutique.
That’s it for September’s fabric round up folks! Before you go, check out our round up of September yarn and projects here, and new needlecraft here.
