Back On The Block – Little Dove Designs 🕊️

It’s always a melting pot of ideas when it comes to the needlecraft department; Ellie and I love searching for new brands or taking a good look at the new season catalogues when they come through. So when conversations come up about having a look at some of our favourites from when we began, some things really are a no-brainer.

For those of you who have been with us for a while now, you may recognise Little Dove Designs. When we first launched needlecraft into the business, we launched with their patterns, along with many other collections. Over the years, we have a much better idea of what you lovely crafters enjoy and resonate with, hence re-launching Little Dove Designs with their incredible cross stitch kits!

We’re so excited to have their beautiful designs back in the warehouse, providing such excellent quality in each kit. But before we receive a delivery, it’s important to shine a light on how these get to our goods-in area.

Little Dove Designs really is a one woman show and Faye certainly doesn’t shy away from any number of hats she needs to wear throughout the day! From designing patterns, assembling kits and more, Faye seems rarely short of a busy day from her home studio near the Suffolk coast.

Regarding the inspiration for her brand and company, Faye says via her website:

“Little Dove Designs started officially in 2007 but in my head it started way back when I was a child putting my first cross stitches into binca fabric at age 8. Being creative is in my blood, I can’t help myself! I just love arts and crafts and cross stitch just really appealed to me from a early age. Cross stitch is so therapeutic (all crafts are really) you can just lose yourself in it for a while and forget all your troubles.”

We’d have to agree with you there, Faye!

Although we haven’t got a Stitchuation on our hands here (see what we did there?! TAXI! 🚕💨), we’ll still highlight some of our favourites that have come into the warehouse so far – it would be rude not to!

Each Little Dove Designs kit comes packaged plastic-free; inside includes a printed colour chart, pre-sorted DMC threads, aida, instructions and a needle. Perfect to send a loved one in the post for a surprise gift, or a little treat for yourself. There’s plenty to choose from, yet Home Of A Stitcher, Retro Kitchen and Christmas Town are certainly some of my favourites!

As you know, we’re gluttons for punishment as we can’t help but ask ourselves the tough questions when it comes to our top choices. This time, we’ve put our general manager Ellie in the hotseat in choosing her faves from the Little Dove kit collection.

Ellie Says…

“I chose A Garden Full of Flowers, as my mum is a keen gardener both at home and on her allotment, so this would make a perfect gift for her! She is also a keen crafter, so I could either give it her as the kit to complete herself, or stitch and frame it for her myself.“

“Little Dove’s Year has been a pattern on my wishlist for years now, but I have not yet got round to purchasing the kit or pattern due to other project commitments in my WIP basket! It’s going to be hard to resist now that we have the kit in stock in the warehouse, though!“

Rounding out Ellie’s top three, she “chose Gnomeville just because of it’s super cute characters and motifs…I mean, who doesn’t love a toadstool themed project!”

We can understand why these caught Ellie’s eye, they’re too cute to resist! Little Dove Designs really do bring a fun and modern twist to those classic samplers.

Have you made any Little Dove delights? Which kit has caught your eye? Let us know by using #WoolWarehouseCrafters and we’ll share some of our favourite makes, or have a look at your stitching plans. Meanwhile, we’re off to write a wishlist ready for payday, because that Little Dove High Street is certainly coming home with a few of us…
