We’re back with another edition of The Stitchuation! This time, we’re focusing on all things Historical Sampler Company and it’s safe to say we’re a little bit obsessed – healthily, of course.

They’ve recently released some fabulous Mini Project kits, but before we take a look at some of our favourites in the collection and rest of the range, let’s find out a little bit more about the company themselves.

When talking about the birth of the brand on their website, Joanne says:

Suzanne and I have been friends for over 30 years, we first met when our husbands worked together and the four of us have remained good friends ever since.

As young mums, we shared an interest in crafting, particularly cross-stitch. We struggled to find designs that we liked and so in 2001 we started designing our own cross stitch patterns. We then decided to sell the patterns and so the Historical Sampler Company was born.

Continuing, Joanne states: “When we first started the Company we worked from a spare bedroom in my home, we then moved into a beautiful wooden cabin in my garden and then in 2020, as the business had expanded so much, we moved into an office building with warehouse.

Originally our main aim was to create traditional Samplers based on original antique designs. We then started to include birth and wedding samplers in our range and from there have expanded to all areas of design. We gain our inspiration from popular images and keep up to date with current trends. We really hope you enjoy our range of designs.”

We certaintly do, indeed!

We adore a seasonal make, so these new mini kits from Historical Sampler Company really do tick every box. We love the cute repetitions featured in each kit; even the smallest details of snowfall and the flutter of bees wings really add the perfect touches of individuality to each piece.

The finished size of each design comes in at 18cm x 18cm, proving small but mighty! Perfect to make and rotate throughout the seasons, the Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter Boxes are available now.

Things have been getting a little festive in the warehouse lately, especially as both pickers and packers are seeing far more of those traditional hues make their way into baskets and buckets! We’ve also covered some of our festive faves in a special edition of The Stitchuation, but just in case you missed it, we’re taking another look at some of the kits that would get Santa smiling.

We really love the use of hangers as another way to display your makes at the moment, so getting in the spirit for framing things a little differently, the Merry and Bright Mini Project is sure to bring a bit of festive cheer to any room.

Yet if you’re a stickler for tradition when it comes to samplers, you’re in the right place. We love the minimalistic hues featured in the White Snowman Sampler kit, but we can’t resist the snowy windows of the Holly Christmas Patchwork!

Now, speaking of tradition…

As Joanne stated via their site, the brand’s aim was to create samplers based on antique designs. Introducing baby and wedding samplers to the mix, they’ve perfectly intertwined traditional styles with modern wants and needs.

The Garden Birth Sampler offers a refreshing twist on a typical baby sampler, whereas the Blue Folk Wedding Sampler marries florals and ‘something blue’ together, perfectly. Not only do samplers bring a personal touch to a gift, they prove a treasured keepsake time and again.

We’re huge fans of Stitchrovia in the warehouse, with a fair few of us stitching some of Emma Congdon’s patterns over the years in her signature typography style. Luckily for us all, Emma’s designed these beautiful kits for the Historical Sampler Company!

Featuring ombré thread techniques and back stitch, these kits also offer a couple of heart-warming sayings to stitch for yourself or a loved one. Home Is Where The Heart Is would be perfect to gift a friend moving into a new abode, while Do More Of What Makes You Happy serves as a kind, and stylish, reminder to do just that.

Well that’s it from us for this edition of The Stitchuation! If it’s your first time here, be sure to take a look around the blog – our homepage offers tips, tricks and other brand focuses, much like this one. You can also shop the full range of Historical Sampler Company kits HERE.

See you next time and happy stitching!
