November Fabric

Hello again friends, It’s nearly December and I hope you’re doing well and not getting too caught up in the festive preparation frenzy. It can be a frantic time and I’m looking for a gentle project to keep my hands busy during the long winter evenings. Luckily we’ve had some stellar deliveries to the fabric room this month, including big name favourites from Moda, neons and metallics galore, and sweet woodland prints for treasured little ones. Let’s have a look at what’s new!

Long awaited and new in from Moda, ‘Longshore‘ combines designer Janet Clare’s love of maps and all things coastal with her desire to explore and see more of the world. Janet’s signature calming colour palette is combined with storytelling prints for city breaks, mountain stays, visits to forests and days at the seaside. There are subtle and textural designs to coordinate with them, evoking fishing nets, night skies and shifting currents, and a fabulous collage print from the pages of Janet’s sketchbook. Janet Clare is one of my personal favourite fabric designers and I’m so excited that this collection has arrived.

You could stitch the dates and details of your adventures on to the big ‘Newton‘ map panel to create a truly unique family heirloom, or turn it into the center piece of a globe trotting quilt. Start your journey here

More than 15 years ago, Moda asked the French General team to design a collection of French-inspired prints, filled with the old reds and neutrals that were popular in France in the 18th and 19th centuries. This first collection was named ‘Rouenneries’ and is, still to this day, one of the designers favourites. Since then, a second collection, ‘Rouenneries Deux’, was released and this year French General are excited to present ‘Rouenneries Trois‘, the third in a series of antique florals and small prints in a traditional French palette.

With their traditional historical prints, and pared back colour palette, French General are a firm favourite with traditional and modern quilters alike, and we’re thrilled to be stocking every design in the Rouenneries Trois range. Combine them with greens for a subtle seasonal project, or with pale greys and beige for a contemporary vibe. And if you’re someone who would like just a little bit of everything, look out for the pre-cut packs of this collection, which are due in very soon.

Last but definitely not least, Anita Jeram’s beloved Nutbrown Hares are back in this new collection from Clothworks, themed around the treasured ‘Guess How Much I Love You’ picture books.

Clothworks have revisited these woodland friends every few years since the initial collaborative collection with Anita in 2018, and in this re-imagining, the hares and other creatures are getting ready for a winter sleep in gentle shades of warm pinks, soft blues, and light beige. Perfect for a snuggly project for a little one.

The sweet blocks panel features quotes from the story and is available in both blues and pinks. I think these would be great cut into smaller blocks for a story quilt, but they could also be a big centre piece in a bigger project, or even a wall hanging or play mat.

A few early November arrivals barely touched the shelves before they flew out again. If you’re itching to have your own piece of Tula Pink’s fabulously neon ‘Untamed‘ collection, Makower’s mysterious ‘Luna‘ prints, or Lewis and Irene’s ornate metallic ‘Year of the Dragon’ we still have some gems left for you, but don’t delay!

I hope that’s got you inspired! Join me next month for the last fabric round up of 2024, and don’t forget to check out Alex’s bumper yarn and projects post here, and this month’s needlecraft news here.
