The Art of the Lost WIP πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈ

Right, now we’re properly into January, I’m trying my best to shake off those pesky winter blues. One of the ways I’m doing this is by tackling the dreaded pile of unfinished projects that I somehow managed to accumulate last year.

First up, we have a blanket. Honestly, I sometimes wonder what on earth possessed me to even start this project! Anyway, I dug out my order history and discovered I started this monstrosity back in August. Apparently, I bought two balls of James C Brett Marble Chunky in shade On the Moor. I must admit, the dusky pink shades are gorgeous, and they really do evoke the feeling of the moors. However, I’m not really a pink person, so I’m not entirely sure why I started this in the first place. I have a friend who is turning 30 soon, so maybe I could add a pretty border and surprise her with it? Otherwise, it will end up unfinished in my craft stash, and as it’s such a big project, it’s harder to tidy it away. The stitch is the Dahlia pattern from Attic24 , which is pleasing to the eye and easy to do whilst watching re-runs of Greys Anatomy πŸ’‰[Edit – Finished blanket and gifted it to friend!]

Next on the list is my darling jumper (parts), made with Drops Nepal in Goldenrod. Absolutely gorgeous yarn and a beautiful colour. I started this ages ago – I think it must have been earlier in 2024. It’s supposed to be a combination of eight sunburst granny squares with four smaller ones for the sleeves. Then you sew it all together and add a really gorgeous collar – that’s the bit I was most excited about! The pattern was created by this lovely Instagrammer.

However, being me and easily distracted by other projects, life in general, and well, everything really, I only managed to make the body. I haven’t even started the actual sleeves yet, and to make matters worse, it’s way too big! I must have done far too many rounds, and now that I’ve laid it out on the floor, it’s painfully obvious that even if I finished it, I’d probably never actually wear it, which is such a shame as I adore the colour and the idea of a cute jumper to wear in spring.

And finally, there’s this summer project that never actually saw the light of day – not in summer, autumn, or even winter! I started it last year, and the idea was to make a lovely lightweight top using a variegated yarn, but I wanted to use natural fibres. I had some old Malabrigo yarn stashed away from another unfinished project, so I thought it would be perfect.

Unfortunately, I ran into a few problems with the pattern. It wasn’t the pattern itself that was the issue, it was more that I was overcomplicating/overthinking things. Thankfully, a colleague at work came to the rescue and helped me figure out where I was going wrong. By the time I finally understood it, I’d completely lost interest and moved on to something else. Although now I’ve seen the project in the light of day, I feel more inspired to finish it. I love a scallop stitch, and the colours in this yarn are so divine.

Our Dispatch Manager asked me the other day, why do we leave our WIP’s? Why do we get so easily distracted and move onto something new? Or then find a pile of old WIP’s and suddenly finish them in a weekend? For me it’s probably boredom – I either get bored of the yarn, or I get bored of the actual project, and suddenly I’m itching to find something new.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this little ramble! Now to put these WIP’s back in the stash and continue with my new crochet vest by Realm Designs πŸ˜
