Our first Yarnsmiths CAL has been teased over the past week, and now we get to tell you a little more about it. We’ve collaborated with well known, and incredible designer, Helen Smith, also known as Emkat Crochet! Read more below….

Hello, wonderful crocheters!

I’m absolutely thrilled to announce the launch of my Spring in Bloom Crochet Along, in collaboration with Wool Warehouse! This project has been such a joy to create, and I can’t wait for you to join me on this colourful journey.

The Inspiration Behind the Design

Spring is a time of renewal and beauty, and what better way to celebrate it than by drawing inspiration from the wildflowers that bloom in the fields during this season and beautiful butterflies emerging from their cocoons. Wildflowers and butterflies have always been a symbol of hope and beauty in their natural, unassuming form. I wanted to capture that spirit in this design, a burst of colour and texture, inspired by the vibrant blooms, delicate petals and wings you see throughout spring meadows. Each stitch in this design reflects the joy and vibrancy that spring brings, and I hope it fills your hands and hearts with the same energy!

A Little About Me

For those of you who are new to my work, I’ve been crocheting for 9 years and designing for just over 4. Over the years, crochet has become my true passion. I love how it allows me to turn ideas into tangible creations, and it has become my favourite way to express myself creatively. Spring has always been one of my favourite seasons, filled with its lively colours and sense of renewal, which is why it’s no surprise that it played a big role in this design.

My Go-To Tools

When it comes to my favourite crochet tools, I always reach for Clover Amour crochet hooks. Their ergonomic handles make crocheting so comfortable, and the smooth finish of the hook makes crocheting a breeze. I can’t imagine working without them! For this project, we have 2 different colour packs available, and I selected Yarnsmiths Create DK yarn, along with the Pebble Haze range, to bring the wildflower-inspired colours to life. These yarns are perfect for creating the vibrant, soft textures needed to capture the spirit of spring.

Collaboration with Wool Warehouse

I’m so excited to be partnering with Wool Warehouse for this Crochet Along. They are the perfect partner for this project, offering a wide selection of high-quality yarns, including the Yarnsmiths Create DK and Pebble Haze, which are at the heart of this design. Their excellent service and huge range of yarns make them an amazing resource for crocheters of all skill levels. I’m so grateful for this collaboration and the opportunity to share this design with you through such a wonderful platform.

Hey everyone, we’re so excited to launch the Spring in Bloom CAL! Before you dive in, we just wanted to mention a few things to keep in mind.

We, along with Helen Smith (the brilliant designer!), are only human. Whilst we’ve put heaps of love and care into this project, the occasional little typo or oops can slip through. If you spot something, please do let us know and we’ll do our best to fix it ASAP. We really appreciate your understanding and kindness!

This particular design is aimed at intermediate to advanced crocheters. It’s not a beginner-friendly project, so if you’re not feeling quite confident with some of the stitches, don’t worry! Check out some of Emkat’s other gorgeous designs here – they might be a great way to build your skills.

A quick word about yarn. The pattern has been carefully tested a number of times, by both us and Helen, and the yarn amounts are based on that. If you tend to crochet a little looser, or if you’re concerned about running short, it’s always a good idea to grab an extra ball or two just in case. Also, please don’t leave super long ends for weaving in, as this can use up more yarn than anticipated.

If you do come across errors, or any issues, please email Helen on the email address emkatcrochet@gmail.com. We will be hosting the CAL each week with links in our Wool Warehouse Craft and Chat group, so make sure you join the group here. Helen will also be doing video tuturials over on her sparkly new YouTube channel here. These will be show the tutorials for the more advanced stitches like the Tulip and Butterfly Stitch.

The Spring in Bloom CAL will run for 6 weeks. All PDF’s for this free pattern can be found on our blog each Wednesday at 11am from the 26th March, and you will find updates on our social media. You will be able to purchase the yarn packs for the CAL later this week! Please note, the pattern is written in UK terms.

You can get the PDF for the Tools and Tips by clicking here. Please remember, this page will be a key help throughout the CAL, as it includes all the stitch descriptions, and yarn codes which are referenced throughout the CAL 🙂
