Vic’s Picks 🎧 April

by Woolly Worker

There’s no fooling today, as April’s here and, fingers crossed, we steer clear of the showers! I’m loving the blooms all around at the minute and with the sun shining, I’ve been getting out more with my earphones in for a lovely walk.

I’ll be honest, I’ve been a bit rubbish with catching up with stitching as of late as I’ve been stupidly busy, and the time I have had, I’ve been burying my head in numerous books instead. I have made some progress since last month and with the brighter days, I’ve certainly been enjoying listening to things that I think complement the weather.

Albeit a little craft light as of late, I’m still working away where I can. I know once I’ve got a little more free time, I’ll be back into the craft and pretty solid in just working on that. Fingers crossed this month and next will bring me that little bit closer to this project’s completion!

Hoping that my picks help those who have strayed further from the craft baskets like myself, here are my three picks for April. As always, please make sure to check your content warnings as some of these suggestions may contain adult language, content and/or sensitive topics.

Getting out of non-fiction and becoming a children’s book editor is Lily Greene’s dream. Albeit shy, connecting with her favourite fantasy author via email is a day maker for her and, after months of talking, their friendship blooms. Yet much to Lily’s dismay, he ghosts her with zero explanation.

Still hurt months later, she puts her energy into finding a date for her sister’s upcoming wedding. Enter Nick Brown: Lily’s handsome new neighbour. A man who she’s immediately drawn to, but can’t fathom why. Little does she know that Nick just happens to be her favourite fantasy author.

With Nick’s personal reasons for using a penname and a bad habit of keeping people at arm’s length, he soon realises that the Lily who lives a few doors away is the Lily he fell for in his emails.

Not wanting to complicate things or expose his true identity, he agrees to set Lily up with another man. However, his initally simple favour grows complicated, as Nick can’t seem to get Lily off his mind.

With many laughs, a tonne of wit and a whole lot of heart, The Neighbor Favor will have you rooting for Lily and Nick until the very end. I absolutely loved this one and rom-com fans will, too. This is the first book in The Greene Sisters series; The Partner Plot is already queued and The Love Lyric comes out next month!

With HBO’s original series returning for season two later this month, catching up on season one of The Last of Us Podcast seems like a great place to start, before we dive back into Joel and Ellie’s arduous journey in a post-apocalyptic world.

Hosted by the voice of Joel from the hit video game, Troy Baker speaks to showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, as they walk through their creative choices for each episode. With Druckmann also writing and directing its video game counterpart, it’s fascinating to listen to how he and Mazin translated everything from game to television.

Since the game’s release in 2013, Joel and Ellie’s story has captured my heart. Hearing just how much went into this faithful adaptation really was a joy to listen to, and I think for any video game fans in general, this provides a heart-warming and insightful listen as you work your way through your WIPs.

I featured Luther Vandross in December for his wonderful Christmas album, This Is Christmas. Yet he’s back for my picks in 2025 as you really can never have enough Luther, an artist who is truly missed.

Released in 1986, Give Me The Reason continues to sound oh-so fresh present day. Featuring nine tracks, Luther’s signature silky vocals astound throughout.

Kicking off proceedings is one of my favourites, Stop To Love; a fantastic song no matter the time of year, but spinning this LP when the sun is out never gets old!

Other gems include See Me, the album’s title track Give Me The Reason and I Really Didn’t Mean It, with So Amazing up there as my favourite ballad on the album.

Well that’s it from me for another month; where is the year going, already?! Make sure to send us your WIPs and tag us using #WWCrafters, and we’ll share some of our favourites. Enjoyed a past suggestion from Vic’s Picks? Let us know!
