Hello lovely crafters, and a warm welcome back to Week Two of our Spring in Bloom CAL! Isn’t it just grand to see the sunshine finally making an appearance?

We do hope you all enjoyed Week One of the CAL. We’ve been absolutely chuffed to bits seeing your squares – honestly, they’re just smashing! We’ve popped a few of your fabulous makes below, straight from our Craft and Chat group. A big thank you to Steffi and Rachel for sharing your progress!

For Week Two, you’ll be having a go at the four smaller side panels. You’ll be getting to grips with stitches like the Butterfly stitch, which, I’ll admit, was a bit of a pickle at first! But a bit of perseverance made those lovely stitches come to life. Helen’s got some brilliant YouTube videos on her page, which will be a right help. If you’re finding it a bit tricky, my top tip is to put it down and come back to it later. I was getting myself in a proper muddle with those Butterfly stitches, but a little pootle ’round the garden sorted me right out! I also had a practise on some bits of spare yarn I had kicking about.

You’ll also be working on the Tulips, which are ever so satisfying! The Popcorn stitch is a real favourite and adds such a lovely bit of texture to any crochet project! With both the Butterfly stitch and the Popcorn stitch in mind, do remember how important tension is. If you’re finding your tension a bit loose, why not try dropping down to a 4mm hook? Helen uses a 4.5mm as she’s a tighter crocheter, but if you’re not quite hitting the right size for the panels or squares, then a 4mm might just do the trick! 😊
Just like last week, do enjoy the CAL, and don’t feel pressured to get everything done in a jiffy. The sun’s been shining, so why not take your makes out into the garden and have a bit of a leisurely crochet? Also remember to keep the Tips and Tools PDF close by! Keep tagging us with your progress and remember to weave in those ends as you go! (I didn’t, and I’m ever so annoyed about it!)
