With the sun shining and the days getting longer, many of us are dreaming of an idyllic getway. Whether it’s a staycation or a little day trip, there’s always something so joyful about treating yourself to a scone piled with clotted cream and jam. Featuring delicious fruit, florals and fine china, Afternoon Tea from Makower serves up a delicious offering, getting us ready for what the summer may bring.

Cherries and decorated Cupcakes feature in the collection, alongside blossoming Strawberries in Green, Pink and Cream.

Its illustrative components really give the impression that these designs have jumped straight out of the sketchbook and onto the fabric, giving a real homemade feel to whatever you decide to make.

Quaint cutlery holders, seasonal bunting and cute coasters are just a few quick ideas on how you can use Afternoon Tea. What are your quilting-senses telling you upon first look? Answers on a postcard, please!

Occasionally, we have some receive some collections in the warehouse that really resonate with us and Afternoon Tea is one of them!

I (Vic, hey!) recently caught up with Francesca to find out her favourites within the range, and why this quaint collection has stuck with her as much as it has. Let’s find out what she had to say!

“The Afternoon Tea collection is definitely one of my favourites both for the style of the illustration and the theme itself. I’m a passionate collector of vintage teacups and those that are depicted on the main print of “Tea Time”?! I’d love to have them all!”

The collection clearly resonates Francesca’s passion for art and illustration; she continues: “I really like the line style and the richness of the details; you can continually find cute, new details that you might have initially missed. Each time I cut it, I’m always noticing new, pretty little things: the tea bags, the half strawberry, the flower embroidered on the napkin, the sugar cubes… just so lovely!”

She fondly recalls wonderful memories of Italy, finding a humour stitched throughout them: “Although the Italian stereotype is the espresso – yes, we drink many and we are very picky about it – it is absolutely true! In certain areas of Italy, the afternoon tea is as commonly available as it is here. Yet the main difference is that we accompany it only with sweet sides, nothing savoury. Oh… I need a cup of tea and a macaron now with my dear Vic!” Just a little author’s note – I won’t say no, Francesca!

Rounding out her final two selections, she’s chosen blenders: “I’d have to accompany the main print in cream with the gentleness of the Sugar Flowers in Pale Blue. I think the tiny colourful details and the harmony with the flowers floating around are a little masterpiece. Strawberry Fizz in Pink is another highlight for me for the same reasons, especially with the tiny blossoms. I could easily see these designs lining a picnic basket or a cute little apron. There really are so many ways to utilise these designs!”

We couldn’t agree more!
