Take Three with Vic 🎬

A little while ago for Granny Square Day, Alex explored three of her favourite designers, discussing what resonated with her and why. Today, I’m asking myself those same questions but with cross stitch designers, instead!

As a cross stitcher, I’ve mostly focused on my Tomb Raider themed pieces, or ‘Croft Stitches’, many of which I’ve posted in The Craft Room here and there. However, over the years, I’ve discovered some wonderful patterns and thankfully, have found a number of designers that I keep coming back to to see what they’re creating next.

There are a fair few of us in the warehouse that love Emma Congdon’s designs. Known in the stitching community and online as Stitchrovia, Emma’s signature typography has proved a hit over the years and a style I’ve become such a fan of, too.

I love how Emma blends colours within each design; some shade changes are so subtle, but offer such depth to the piece. I’ve stitched a number of Stitchrovia designs, including one from the Cross Stitch For The Soul pattern book. I haven’t explored her other books yet, however it’s so tempting as we stock her other Cross Stitch For… series instalments in the warehouse. Both of the Earth and Heart books appear to feature many stunning designs, appealing to a number of us woolly workers!

Emma’s patterns are not only super easy to follow, the vibrancy of each piece always feels so well thought-out. I’m always on the lookout for what’s new on her page and with a number of patterns to be stitched in my stash, I should really focus on what I have rather than keep shopping, but I can never resist! You can find more of Emma’s patterns over on her Etsy HERE and keep up to date with her other features via Instagram HERE.

As a Horror fan, I love seeing well-designed patterns that tip a hat to some classic slasher movies and Meg Black, known as The Witchy Stitcher, always comes through with some incredible designs! Whether they’re the more niche references or more in your face, Meg’s attention to detail, placement and blending always blows me away.

My current favourites in my wishlist are what’s pictured above: Just The Tip from 1996’s Scream, the Camp Crystal Lake sign from Friday The 13th and the portrait of Michael Myers from Halloween. Meg’s also designed some seriously ace SALs, along with some samplers and many other intricate designs that are perfect for horror and gothic fans everywhere!

I’m always checking out her shop to see what she’s offering us horror fans and I’m always amazed with the level of detail that goes into her work. I’m currently staying strong on my pattern ban, but I fear it won’t last much longer with these lot! You can check out Meg’s site HERE or head over to The Witchy Stitcher page on Etsy HERE.

I’m such a fan of mid-century modern design, so when I was looking for patterns in that style a while ago, I came across Eccentric Avenue on Etsy and have been charmed ever since! I absolutely love the old signage and styles, and whilst I’m forever wishing I could have a conversation pit in my home, I feel as though I can get that little bit closer with these designs. Simplistic yet strikingly effective, shop owner and designer Scott Maloney has created these patterns with a clear passion for the style, basing some of the designs on his own paintings and prints.

I’ve had the above patterns in my favourites list for a while, but the juggling Chef, the No Tell Motel and the Cocktails are some of my favourites right now! I love the styles of these, especially as the Cocktails design really leans into the mid-century style further with the stars and large boomerang in its centre. Although I’m not bothered about a tipple, its style has certainly swayed me in stitching it!

That’s it from me with my current favourites, so thanks for joining me for my Take Three! Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more of our favourite designers in The Craft Room. In the meantime, enter your email below to subscribe and never miss a post from us!

Catch you next time! ✨
