Welcome! Come with us on our walk around the Wool Warehouse to check out some of the gorgeous new additions to our needlecraft department for April. We’ve selected a lovely collection of cross stitch kits, embroidery kits, and project bags to keep it all safe!
Are you always putting down your threads after a stitchy session, but are then not entirely sure where they are? Do you keep finding your favourite, sharp embroidery scissors under the sofa? And where has that needle gone?! To avoid these situations, we absolutely recommend using a project bag – to keep your fabric, the pattern, all the threads, as well as your stitching accessories, safe and in one place. We have selected these two project bags from our collection to highlight this month.
The Just Keep Stitching bag from Bothy Threads, complete with its rainbow curves and colourful zip, would be a great choice for tucking away your crafty supplies until you’re ready to stitch again. Measuring a generous 28cm by 31cm, it is a perfect size to look after a size 3 Nurge hoop (22cm by 19.5cm), and still have plenty of room for scissors, threads and your chart. Made from 100% organic recycled cotton, the bags come with a range of colourful zips, just to keep the rainbow theme going!
If you think you might forget the contents of your project bag, how about one with a vinyl pocket on the front? No unzipping required to check which of your stitchy creations is in this Bird Aviary project pouch. Along with the zippered, transparent pocket on the front, there is an additional pocket at the back which would be perfect for tucking in your chart and stitch diagrams. A sweet flower charm as the zipper pull, along with the colourful blue and coral bird design on a teal background, make this pouch a wonderful addition to our needlecraft accessories, and may be just what you’re looking for to keep your stitching safe. No one wants to spend precious stitchy time searching for lost threads – you want to be stitching, right?!
Dimensions have delivered some wonderful new cross stitch kits to us this month and we couldn’t wait to showcase them for you here. First, we couldn’t resist this beautiful seaside scene, Beach Huts, with its row of jaunty little huts, the iconic stripy deckchair, a cheeky crab and pair of chatting black and white gulls. The detail on the gravel path and the plants in the foreground really brings this nautical scene to life, as do the pennants fluttering proudly in the sea breeze. Each hut is distinctive in design and colour, meaning each will be a pleasure to stitch, as you make your way along the cute row. Stitched on 16 count white aida, everything you will need is included, and this design by Lynn Horrabin will have an approximate finished size of 45.7cm x 17.7cm. Whether you’re planning to dip your toes in the sea this year or not, what could be sweeter than stitching up this adorable coastal scene?
Also from Dimensions, and new in the warehouse this month, is this sweet little design – Teacup House. If Beach Huts above enjoyed a soft colour scheme dominated by calm pastels, this cute design is very bold and bright in contrast. Shades of pink, purple and green are used to great effect in this whimsical stitch, where the sweet stripy house with the bold-coloured door sits, nestled amongst the plants, in a shallow teacup. And why not?! Small and cute, at a finished size of just 15cm x 15cm, the kit includes threads, fabric and a needle, as well as a large chart, perfect for ensuring you get all the important little details spot-on! Perfect for fans of stitching, gardening and drinking tea, we think!
And, for our final stop on our needlecraft tour for April, these Trimits embroidery kits have caught our eye and captured our hearts! Two cute, seasonal designs, one perfect for right now (Spring Floral, on the left), and the other (Toadstool Squirrel), a perfect stitch for later in the year, when the leaves start to change colour, signalling that autumn is on its way. A wonderful way for a stitcher who is new to embroidery to begin on their crafty journey, each kit includes everything you will need to create the charming pictures, including a 6″ bamboo hoop which you can also use for finishing your picture. The designs are pre-printed onto the cotton fabric, and full instructions are included for all the stitches you will need to master – simply select the appropriate colour, stitch away, and create your own embroidered masterpiece! The explosion of bright florals sitting in the elegant blue cup will be a charming way to stitch yourself through spring and, when you’re done, you’ll be ready to welcome the warm reds and ambers of autumn in the squirrel and toadstool combo!
