Welcome back to another Unravelling a Yarn Brand, the series where we take you through some of our favourite brands we’re stocking for you craft lovers!
Today we will be talking to you about Cygnet yarns, founded in 2004 in West Yorkshire. Cygnet yarns offer a HUGE array of yarns, from natural fibres to synthetic yarns which you all know and love. Cygnet have a super tiny close knit team, meaning thorough discussions into their newest yarns, making sure that what customers have exactly what they’ve asked for. Everybody gets involved in all aspects of the business, from yarn development, to packing boxes in the warehouse to making cups of teas for the team – we love it! In 2022 they joined the UK Hand Knitting Association – UK Hand Knitting is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting hand knitting and associated yarn crafts and supporting independent retailers.

Now onto their yarns… You may have seen that we stock quite a few Cygnet ranges, with some sitting more favourably with our woolly team. Boho Spirit, the colourful single ply yarn is one that really sparks creative imagination. Why are we always drawn to these style of yarns? They are so versatile, with a huge range of colours. Cygnet introduced the exceptionally popular Boho Spirit at the end of 2015 and it resulted in an unprecedented level of demand. Originally intended as a limited edition, this range initially sold out in a matter of days, so Cygnet made the decision to make it a permanent fixture. Boho Spirit is a fabulously soft, variegated roving yarn, available in several incredible shades, falling somewhere between double knit and aran weight. Due to the loftiness of the yarn, it is incredibly soft and versatile and works well knitted or crocheted and results in a soft garment with a beautiful subtle sheen. Afterglow, Boheme and Folk are some of my favourite shades in this range.

Another real favourite with you lovely crafters, especially those who enjoy a bit of amigurumi and toy making is the Cygnet Jelly Baby range! This yarn is just wonderfully plush and has a lovely bit of texture to it, making it a doddle to create fun and gorgeous bits and bobs. Jelly Baby Chenille is just irresistibly squishy and soft, a proper chunky yarn that’s spot on for all sorts, but what we see most folks use it for us squishy and cuddly amigurumi! Chenille is a great yarn to use for toy making, as it brings characters to life. Cygnet’s range of Jelly Baby has a great variety of colours, from super soft pastels to proper vibrant pops! They’ve also released the glitter range in this yarn.
Cygnet is a well loved brand, and continue to release classic yarns that suit all crafters. They’re a hit with traditional knitters, and with people wanting to try their hand at something new! From cuddly chenille yarns, soft cottons, and of course their gorgeous DK range, you will find something to try. They also have a great range of free patterns! Perfecto! Anyway, see you next time, 👋
