Ciao yarn folks! Our General Manager and Managing Director have just returned from a wee trip and are hopefully full of inspiration! Ellie and Andy headed to Pitti Filati in Florence, a bi-annual international trade show held at the historic Fortezza de Basso in Florence. It’s where the top industry spinning mills, designers and buyers come together to showcase their latest collections, and predict future trends in the yarn world, it’s a little like fashion week, but for yarn 💛
As a wholesaler looking for yarns to join our Yarnsmiths family, it’s a chance for us to get ahead of the curve, to feel the different textures, see the colours and get a chance to sit down with the spinners and have a good old chat about future fibres. We aren’t able to go into detail about who they spoke with, or what’s been chosen, as that would be giving away some secrets that would make the whole thing a little less exciting! Whilst Pitti Filati primarily focuses on yarn, there is always an underlying theme for the show and this year, it was Pitti Bikes. The bicycle theme serves as a metaphor for flexibility and versatility, two values that resonate with the ever evolving yarn industry. This theme manifested as Wheel of Yarns at Pitti Filati, with installations and visuals emphasizing movement and innovation.
Italy promised a hot few days whilst Andy and Ellie were away (they then returned to a heatwave in the UK too!). This didn’t dampen any spirits, except for running around between buildings at midday, but that’s part of the fun 😊 They embraced some chill lunchtimes, mostly just having ice cream, which to me sounds like a dream! The overall trip sounds excellent, and it will hopefully inspire our future ranges for the 2026 collections.
Now, shall we tell you about some new ranges joining the family in the next few months? You may have seen over on our Instagram Family Chat that myself, Jess & Helen have been making props and painting them gold. This is for our next launch which will tell a story about the sun and the moon! We may have gone a little mad, but it’ll all be fab once you see the yarn! Think swirls of colour that will make this yarn the headliner of your stash… can’t wait! Later this summer we will also have another range joining us, one that is an explosion of colour, which may put our Create range to shame… I’ll let you keep pondering!
