Fabric Focus – Longshore 🗺️

For our final summer focus, we thought we’d spend it on the shimmering seas with Janet Clare’s Longshore collection. Known for her use of multi-tonal blues and neutral hues, the designer has become a fan favourite over the years and shows no sign of slowing down, much to many quilters delights!

Janet Clare and Moda go hand-in-hand and with a wide range of collections, Janet’s name and designs have resonated with many over the years. A regular on Sewing Street TV, her many talents have taken her far and wide. With over 23 collections complete, five books written and classes in her very own studio, it’s safe to say her many crafts keeps her incredibly busy.

As for the inspiration behind Longshore, Janet states via Moda’s look book:

“Longshore combines my fascination with maps and all things coastal with my wanderlust to explore and see more of the world. You just can’t beat the thrill of being somewhere new (even if it’s just a few miles away from home) and seeing everything with fresh eyes and inspiring energy.

I’ve chosen my favourite calming colour palette and combined it with storytelling prints for city breaks, mountain stays, visits to forests and days at the seaside; there’s plenty of subtle and textural designs to
accompany them and a fabulous collage print straight from the pages of my sketchbook.”

I think it’s safe to say that Janet’s done that, and then some! It wouldn’t be a Fabric Focus if we weren’t to talk a little bit about our favourites within the collection. For this week, we’re loving the ‘hero’ prints, with Bucket List in shade Flag and the beautifully contrasting shades in Seafarers Way in Night. Yet Longshore’s blenders are up there with some of the best, too! True North on Rope ties in wonderfully with the collection’s blues, whilst Net in Haze has us thinking of glass floats and ship nettings bobbing away in the glittering ocean.

All Around The World 🌍

Longshore encapsulates all things nautical, even in its blenders. But what may catch your eye the most within this stunning collection is the Newton Flag Panel, a stunning atlas featuring designs from the range itself. What you choose to do with the map is completely up to you!

Coming in at 90cms x 112cms, the Newton panel is set to inspire, reminding us that there’s so much more in our world for us to discover.

Whether you fashion it into an eye-catching wall hanging or transform it into a quilt, we’re certain that it’s sure to become quite the conversation piece, alongside an heirloom that will be fondly cherished for generations to come.

Janet’s signature style allows you to mix and match, giving you the option to play around with some of her other collections. It proves a perfect solution if you’ve got some previous pieces hanging around in your scrap draw! To The Sea, Astra and Larking all feature blues, creams and sands, giving you the freedom to use what simply feels right for you and your projects.

That’s it from us for this week; thanks, as always, for joining us! Have you used Longshore or any of Janet Clare’s wonderful designs for quilting? If so, we’d love to see your projects! Join us for WIP Wednesday over on our Facebook page, or tag us in your photos using #WoolWarehouseCrafters and we’ll share some of our favourites.
