‘Statement Week’ saw the final five knitters tackle pressure with highly technical and creative briefs – every crafters worst nightmare!

The individual challenge was a ten hour dash to create statement jewellery. Lydia absolutely triumphed, crocheting a flawless, intricate lattice neckpiece that earned high praise for its use of skill. Holger went daringly conceptual, knitting his jewellery out of strips of black bin liner, while Simon used difficult Viking knitting with metal wire, though the judges worried about practicality – we personally loved it!

The main challenge was the highly technical ‘Lace Off’, each maker had to knit an identical, complex Shetland lace patterned panel for a collaborative lampshade. This task, where light revealed every mistake, was a test of chart reading precision. Isaac was a revelation, finishing first with a spectacular, perfect panel. Others, including Holger and Ailsa, struggled to keep the pattern’s central column perfectly straight, but still tried their hardest!

After a week that valued technical precision, Lydia was crowned Best Knitter of the Week for her exquisite and flawless jewellery design. Sadly, the highly technical lace challenge ultimately proved to be Simon’s undoing, and he was the contestant cast off this week. We’ll see you at the semi-finallll, tooodalooooo đŸŒˆâœšâ€ïž
