The Stitchuation 🧵 DMC

For many of us needlecraft fans, DMC’s stranded cottons are a go-to staple for all of our projects. But you may not know that they also offer a variety of kits, also. We thought for this edition of The Stitchuation that we’d take a closer look at some of our favourites, and ones we think you’ll love, too.

Iconic Artists 🖼️

Over the years, DMC have helped bring artists’ work to life in other mediums and these kits really are something to behold. All cross stitched, it’s astonishing at how well they’ve managed to translate these works into another format. Due to the details within each piece, these kits are aimed at the more experienced stitcher, yet if you’re up for the challenge, there’s plenty to sink your stitching teeth into with an exceptional result!

First up, we’re loving Gustav Klimt’s ‘The Kiss’, as this kit utilises their metallic Light Effects threads and Mouline Etoilé to offer that opulence that its original showcases perfectly. Next up and bringing the vibrancy is this retelling of Van Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers’. Originally painted in 1888, creating your own is sure to become quite the conversation with guests and art lovers alike.

Finally, Katsushika Hokusai’s ‘Great Wave of Kanagawa’ or ‘The Wave’, as it’s more commonly known, is stunning in this format, offering a different take on its woodblock printed origins. Featuring French Knots and stunning backstitching to give more dimension to the piece, this feels like a challenge that’s incredibly well-worth it.

Home Sweet Home 🏡

Home is where the heart is, as they say, and for many of us, we’re lucky to also be able to make it our haven. Although we’re heading into spring, there’s nothing better than feeling settled and cosy, and these kits certainly evoke those feelings of never wanting to leave your space.

However, speaking of this coming blooming season, the Spring Landscape kit offers a look at rolling fields and acres of blossoming trees and florals. Designed by Georgie K. Emery, this embroidery kit includes three different fabric colours to embroider your design onto, offering an interesting twist and stunning depth to the piece as you work.

Our next kits come from the mind and works of Karin Fast, an artist offering other idyllic images; ones that evoke serenity and relaxation among the use of bright and vibrant colours from DMC’s stunning palette.

Homey Bedroom certainly proves that having to leave that cosy space would be tough first thing in the morning! We’re loving the detail used for the bedding covers, along with the fun florals peeping through the window. Yet the Winter Garden kit sees the space surrounded by houseplants, with your attention and focus on the vibrant and intricately stitched blanket that drapes over the sofa. There’s so much detail packed in a small space, yet both offer a great challenge with a rewarding pay-off.

Beautiful Blooms 💐

We can’t talk DMC and not include some gorgeous florals! We’re always blown away by the detail that these designers and artists use, and these next designs are no different. The wonderfully talented Nathalie Weinzaepflen is kicking things off for us first, with an embroidery kit and a cross stitch kit.

The Floral Embrace embroidery kit is certainly one to behold, as Nathalie’s colourwork truly shines here, contrasting beautifully with the receipient’s monochromatic outline. The kit also includes iridescent pearl beads to bring another dimension to the piece, offering a subtle shimmer. Next is the Herbs sampler cross stitch kit, one that’s perfect for gardeners and foodies alike! This one would be perfect to hang in the kitchen or offer as a gift to an allotment lover.

Finally, we’re highlighting Pippa Haynes’s Forget Me Not embroidery kit; a truly stunning piece using wirework for this eye-catching 3D effect. Using two fabrics for the background and the flowers themselves, the kit also includes pearl beads for the centre of the flowers, offering further detail to the piece. A few stunning blooms to embroider that are sure to never wilt!

That’s it from us for this month’s edition of The Stitchuation; we hope you’ve enjoyed this month’s selections. Be sure to subscribe below and join us next month for some seriously stunning pieces ⤵️✨
