Last week, we reached out to our Facebook followers for crafting tips aimed at beginner crocheters. The replies were fantastic! We often forget the importance of relaxing into our projects, so this post will serve as a gentle reminder of things that might have been overlooked… We’ve chosen five tips from our Facebook followers to get you started!

Tip One: Embrace The Frog!

“It may take many frogs to complete a project, but their role is to slow you down and make you focus – embrace the frog ๐Ÿธ”

Frogging can be a bit disheartening (I’m in the thick of it at the moment!), but I have complete faith that the stunning Malabrigo yarn will transform into something far more delightful than what I was previously crocheting! It can be hard work to frog certain yarns, so make sure you’re being gentle with your frogging! As this crafter has said – Embrace the Frog!

Tip Two: Sometimes It’s Okay To Wait To Weave!

“Don’t weave in your ends until you’re sure you won’t frog it – so much easier if the ends are free. Once you’ve decided to keep going with it, weave in the ends as you go.”

A brilliant tip: getting caught out on this one can only prolong the frogging process. While we always encourage you to weave in your ends as you progress, do so only when you are certain you wonโ€™t need to revisit that part. Frogging a project with ends woven in can often result in knotted yarn ๐Ÿซ

Tip Three: Know Your Terms

“There are two sets of terms: UK and US. Know which you are working in, [there] are plenty of conversion charts online.”

SUPER important! Understanding the various terms in crocheting is crucial. As someone with experience, I often forget specific terminology when purchasing patterns, leading to confusion and mistakes. Refreshing my knowledge of these terms enhances my skills and ensures a smoother experience with new patterns. Remember, UK terms has no single crochet!

Tip Four: Ask The Community

“There is no such thing as the Crochet Police. Do what works for you. If you need advice or help with a project, just ASK. Crochet and knitting people are some of the nicest, kindest people I’ve met ๐Ÿ’–”

We absolutely adore this! While it’s easy to become our own toughest critics with various projects, it’s crucial to remember the importance of prioritizing what truly works for you!

Tip Five: Have Fun!

“Enjoy the journey ๐Ÿ˜Š Photograph your projects [and] buy yarn that’s soft and comfortable to work with ๐Ÿฅฐ”

A straightforward tip: finding joy in your work is just as vital as the act of creating itself. Capturing photos and celebrating the projects that have lingered in your WIP pile not only brings satisfaction but also embodies a profound sense of self-love!
