We’re back with another edition of The Stitchuation and this month, we’re heading back over to Bothy Threads and their talented pool of artists. We’ve already covered Lucy Pittaway in a previous post, yet we thought we’d step into the fabulous world of Shoe Art and take a closer look at Sally King’s iconic fashion illustrations.
Bothy Threads are known for translating works of art into needlecraft kits, and these have to be some of the most detailed adaptations we’ve seen yet! From the finest lines to minute detailing, Bothy haven’t missed a moment when working on Sally’s original works.
As for the artist herself, Sally King’s journey with art began at a young age, going on to study fine art and fashion design, as she explains via her website. Marrying her two subjects, she explains that she enjoys the challenge of transferring objects onto high heels, utilising angles and shapes to her advantage and to challenge herself, also. Without further delay, let’s take a closer look at the its inspired by her designs!
Hobbies, Hobbies, Hobbies
Many of us take up hobbies to spend our free time on, and these kits give a nod to some favourable ways to do so. First up is Posy, a heel that would be blooming perfect for those garden lovers out there! With a stunning sage backdrop, the pops of lilacs, golds, and pinks tone so well together, proving to be a perfect make for a summer house or conservatory!
Next up is Blues and Sole, a kit that’s perfect for the music lovers among us! Featuring stunning shades of denim blues and blush pinks, this kit displays an intricately-stitched gold guitar, cleverly fastened by this killer boot’s fastening. With a heel sharp enough to play a record with, Blues and Sole embodies many different genres from across the decades.
‘Tis The Season
Whatever the subject, Sally’s artwork is sure to be embellished with an astounding amount of detail, yet its her seasonal designs that continue to charm us each year. Hubble Bubble covers your autumnal and Halloween celebrations perfectly with its features. Showcasing black cats, a bubbling cauldron and a waiting spider, this shoe’s ready for a scare! Yet its the stiletto heel made from menacing pumpkins and back stitched vines that really brings the thrills!
Moving onto Christmas next, Sally’s shoes excel in those colder months, too – thankfully, there’s no literal slip hazard, here! Yuletide’s not letting a little snow stop its style as this boot is ready for the harshest of winters with a built-in sled! Featuring mistletoe, sprigs of holly and charming bells, this one feels like a worthwhile challenge and one to cherish year-after-year.
Finally, if you’re looking for something that’s all-out Christmas and a little less ambiguous, then A Christmastide Tale is the shoe for you. Offering a stunning design, the backstitching on this piece truly brings it to life with its full branches and minute details for the baubles. With a nutcracker standing tall for this heel and the happiest of ballerinas for further festive fun, A Christmastide Tale is perfect to refresh your decor with as soon as we hit that final calendar page. Yet however you celebrate, we’re sure that there’s a Sally King stiletto that’s perfect for you or a loved one!
