Our first Yarnsmiths Summer Pattern collection brings a beautiful mix of textures, breezy layering tops and cute accessories that elevate summer crafting and style. We’ve worked with some great designers to bring our collection to life, and what’s best is that the patterns are available for free to download on our website! Let’s have a closer look at the designs…!
First up is the Vacation Shawl (Pattern 7311) designed by Brian Smith. The pattern is written using our Yarnsmiths Support Act 100% Cotton, which is a premium cotton that feel incredibly soft in your hands. Using a smaller needle give this shawl an airy, delicate drape. It is exactly the kind of chic wrap you want to throw over your shoulders as a beachside restaurant as the sun goes down. We chose Champagne and Steel Blue for a nice contrast, but other colourways would work beautifully.

Speaking of beach trips, I am in love with the Petal Tote Bag (Pattern 7315) designed by Made by Hem. This one uses our Yarnsmiths Cotton DK, which is brilliant because it gives you that sturdy, rustic structure every crochet bag needs. It holds its shape beautifully, meaning you can pack it full of yarn for your outing to craft outside. The delicate flower design is gorgeous, and something a little different. Our Cotton DK range comes in a fabulous 120 colours, giving you plenty of options!
If you’re looking for a romantic shawl, the Sunflower Shawl (Pattern 7317) designed by Crochet Mill is beautiful. It leans into the peak summer energy with a gorgeous lace design. It’s designed using Yarnsmiths Headliner – Blended One (also comes in 100% Cotton), which is a beautiful, variegated yarn that does all the hard colour changes for you. The yarn naturally shifts through five different shades, making whatever pattern you are working on pop without you having to weave in a million ends.
Moving on to the Summer Blanket (Pattern 7318) designed in-house by our team. This simple JAYG granny square blanket uses Yarnsmiths Summer Meadow, a Cotton and Linen mix, which comes in some gorgeous muted and earthy tones. We based this blanket on the shades our other designers had used, so we incorporated pinks, yellows, and oranges to tie the collection together. The blanket is left with a raw edging; however, you add a neat scallop edge if you want to give it a nice finish.

We teamed up with designer, Shelley Worth, to bring her Aspen Peplum Top to life (Pattern 7336). This design also uses Summer Meadow in shade Hollyhock, and as you know, linen is a perfect summer fibre because it breathes so well and gets softer and softer with every single wash. The blend gives the flared peplum waist a high end, boutique style drape that won’t feel clingy on a hot day!
Lastly, we have another make by Made by Hem, this time the Sunshine and Sand cover up is made from Yarnsmiths Cotton DK, using the gorgeously rich Antique Gold shade. This lacy cover up has a lovely tie at the front, which makes the top adjustable. It’s lightweight and easy to throw on over a bikini or dress whilst on holiday.
We always make our Yarnsmiths patterns free to download, so you just need to grab your yarn and get making! We can’t wait to see your variations ✨
