July Fabric – Festive First Look

We’ve barely had a summer yet, but the small trickle of gold, red and green fabrics being picked from our shelves has become a steady stream, which can only mean one thing; Festive crafting season has begun!

It might feel madly early, but July is our busiest time for Christmas fabric deliveries, and this month I’m giving you an early round up of some of our favourite new festive collections so that you can start planning (Santa’s elves take note!)

Still with me? Turn up the aircon, get yourself a blanket and a spiced hot drink, and let’s have a look at what’s new.

The bells are ringing, the robins are singing, it’s time to join Liberty for a spectacular festive celebration full of joy, warmth and surprising delights! ‘Festive Fair‘ hits just the right notes with its mix of classic Christmas motifs and fun modern elements.

As night sets, watch the tranquil snow settle over rooftops and the neighbouring pine forest. Gifts for all the kids sit under a magical toy tree, which is just waiting to be decorated with stars, ornaments, and ribbons. And what would a holiday extravaganza be without sweets and treats!

After the success of last year’s ‘Winter in Bluebell Wood‘ flannels collection, Lewis and Irene are back with more cosy brushed cotton, this time revisiting their festive ‘New Forest Winter‘ prints, inspired by the forests close to Lewis and Irene HQ. Adorned with watchful robins, winter berries, and delicate seed heads, this collection of tactile flannels is also complemented by soft and perfectly coordinating Bumbleberries.

Flannel is an excellent fabric for winter bedding and soft furnishings, or for a really snuggly quilt backing. Or maybe Christmas pyjamas for the whole family….?

Makower have pulled out all the stops with this year’s beautiful, woodland themed seasonal collection. Featuring festive forests, sparkly snowflakes and starlit skies, ‘Enchanted Christmas‘ has a rich colour palette of reds, greens and creams, with highlights of metallic gold. I love the addition of rich, plummy red in this otherwise quite traditional red and green colour scheme, it adds real depth.

The accompanying squares panel is super versatile, with loads of project possibilities! It could make for perfect table settings, decorative cushions, quilt blocks and more.

This modern retro collection includes two bigger block designs that could be fussy cut to make fun fabric gift tags, or be framed in Christmas cards or tree ornaments.

Describing the inspiration for her collection, Deb says “Although every season brought its own beauty, winter was by far the most wonderful. The peace and quiet of walking among the trees when the snow was falling, was truly magical! If you watched closely and were lucky, glimpses of woodland animals could be seen amongst the pines”.

And that concludes this month’s fabric round up! I hope you’re feeling a bit inspired, I’ll be back with more summery news in August. Before you go, do check out our look at July’s yarns and projects here, and our peep at the latest new needlecraft arrivals here
