Vic’s Picks ๐ŸŽง November

Can I begin with asking the obvious – HOW IS IT NOVEMBER?! I think we all have the same thoughts around this time of year when it comes to the concept of time and just how fleeting it all is. But then again, I can’t complain too much as I’m absolutely that person who will be decorating for Christmas in a couple of weeks time. I’ll hear no disputes!

But until the rummaging in the loft commences, my WIPs are far from Christmas themed as I’m still working away on the gift for my mom. It’s coming along nicely, even if last month did fly past quicker than a witch on a broomstick.

I’ve definitely improved with my project timekeeping over the years! I do think that having something to keep my ears company helps. I always have something to listen to when working, but lately I’ve been trying to keep the pace in using an audiobook’s length to aim for a project finish. Of course, results will vary with project and listening hours, but I’m finding it a good goal to aim for! I’ll let you know how that goes. In the meantime, I’ve got some picks out of the vault for you to set your own challenges with.

As always, please be aware that some of these picks may contain adult language and/or sensitive topics.

Quinn Alexanderโ€™s on the run and with only time to grab her passport, she heads for the northern border. But with a snowstorm throwing a spanner in her plan, she has to seek shelter in the Baxter Motel.

With an overfriendly owner and an ominous figure looming, the night sheโ€™d paid for might hold more than sheโ€™s bargained for.

Perfect for fans of fast-paced thrillers, Do Not Disturb will have you flying through those blanket rows as you wonโ€™t want to press pause.

I know, it’s another QCODE production, but if you’ve listened to my other suggestions, you’ll understand why!

Simon Itani’s typical evenings seem relaxing as he hosts hi small-town radio show, yet when a power grid goes down, he’s forced to protect his family when his community see the blackout as a sign to take the scales of justice into their own hands.

Starring Academy Award winner Rami Malek and featuring incredible sound design, Blackout is sure to keep you hooked. With a second season also starring Aja Naomi King, there’s plenty more thrills to be had.

Undoubtedly one of my favourites throughout the year, there’s something about listening to Jamie Woon’s Mirrorwriting in the winter months that seems to enrapture you further.

With thoughtful lyrics and beautiful melodies throughout, it’s a real shame we don’t hear more from Jamie Woon. Yet I’m happy to wait however long for another body of work that’s as good as this and Making Time.

Standout tracks for me include Spirits, Night Air, Spiral, Gravity – even the interlude, Secondbreath, wows. It’s an incredible body of work that I feel lucky enough to own the vinyl box set of – thank you to that lovely eBay seller!

Well that’s it for me for this month’s picks! I hope there’s something there for you to get stuck into as you fly through those WIPs! As always, we’d love to see what you’re working on, so make sure to tag us in your makes using #WWCrafters, and we’ll share some of our favourites.

Catch you next month for some fabulously festive picks! ๐ŸŽ„
