The Stitchuation 🧵 Hawthorn Handmade

It’s time for our first Stitchuation of 2025 and following on from our fabulous chat with Stephanie, owner and designer of Hawthorn Handmade, it felt fitting to also turn the spotlight on her brand for this month. If you missed our interview with Stephanie, you can catch up HERE.

But before we take a look at some of our favourite kits, let’s dive into a bit of brief history for Hawthorn Handmade. Taken from their website…

“Owner and kit designer Stephanie has been crafting and drawing since she can remember and spent her childhood with a pencil in hand doodling on anything and everything.

After a brief spell in hospitality and event management, she was re-introduced to contemporary craft whilst working at a local craft centre and in 2010 branched out on her own to open her very own gallery and workshop space in North Dorset called Hawthorn. It was there that she taught herself how to needle felt on the quiet days (of which there were many!).

They continue: “This quickly progressed to selling her finished wool sculptures around the country at shows and exhibitions as well as teaching hundreds of keen stabbers how to magically turn fluffy wool into beautiful creatures and decorations. Her original needle felting kits evolved from these workshops, and in May 2013 after months of development, Hawthorn Handmade was born.”

How grateful we are they had!

There’s nothing better than sitting down with a new project and disappearing into the craft in front of you. Luckily for us, Hawthorn have helped us along on heading into some truly stunning scenery with these embroidery kits. Harvest Time offers rolling fields of oranges, sages and golds, while Dorset Days shows the famous Durdle Door in a fantastically stylised design.

These felt pennant hits are sure to brighten any corner and are quite the hit with many of us in the warehouse. The tones used really pop on the navy felt, so sitting down to whip up one of these is a perfect way to spend a Saturday! Both the Celestial and the Wildflower kit come with everything you need to get started, including the wooden dowel and reuseable templates.

We love the variety of crafts that Hawthorn Handmade offer and their needle felting kits are just another of our faves! Each small, but mighty, box includes the essentials you need to felt a new little friend. This month, we can’t get enough of the Happy Ghost, the Sheep, the Turtle and the Penguin. Not only are they super-cute, they’re perfect for beginners, too.

You can view and shop the full Hawthorn Handmade range HERE; we’re sure there’s something here that will suit and if not, why not head into the new year to learn a new discipline? Whatever you decide to make first, be sure to tag us in your makes using #WWCrafters.

That’s it for this month’s Stitchuation! If it’s your first time here on the blog, be sure to have a look around for tips and tricks, inspiration and more chats with designers! Until next time, happy crafting.
