New Year’s Resolutions 🗓️ Vic’s Six Month Catch Up

by Woolly Worker

I’m not sure where these past six months have flown off to, but I thought it best to see how Adam, Francesca, Annette and myself are getting on with those pesky resolutions we set ourselves way back in December. If you’re a relatively new reader to The Craft Room, you can catch up with those original posts HERE. Right – it’s time to hold myself accountable!

Throughout my Vic’s Picks posts for the year so far, I’ve kept you all updated on the projects I’ve working on and, I’ll be honest, my plans have deviated from their once lofty beginnings. But I do think they’re for the best!

I did have quite a few projects sat in my WIP stack; some are very much still there, but I did decide to unpick a couple back in March. I hadn’t made any progress and I even dedicated a little post to this process in The Art of Letting Go, right here in The Craft Room. It was the right thing for me to do and in doing so, it’s given me a little more freedom to work on the things I wanted to focus my attention on, rather than feeling obligated to stick with them.

As far as completions go, my first was Caterpillar Cross Stitch’s Holly Jolly Kitchen, pictured above. Finishing in January, I just didn’t have the time pre-Christmas to get that final stretch done. I made some changes to the original colours, just to make it a little more unique for myself and I’m really pleased with the results. I’ve been trying to swap things around a little more lately; as much as I do like the originals, I do like to challenge myself to see what I can change around, or make work a little more harmoniously when I deviate from the pattern’s intended fabric.

I also finally finished my Sydney piece! In addition, I did add and also go through my pattern folders, ticking off some of those in a random spurt of non-stop stitching, including another from Caterpillar Cross Stitch in Picnic Party, and a pattern by StitchGallery on Etsy. I’m pleased with how these have gone, especially with my colour changes, and it sure is nice to see them below. Sometimes you forget what you’ve done, especially as they can quickly become part of the furniture!

As for continued WIPs, my multiple Ms. Crofts are at a small standstill. My Alicia Vikander portrait hasn’t been added to, yet my Tomb Raider III piece has seen some welcomed changes, finally! With two page completions and beginning the third, it’s great to see the progress coming along on this one. Fingers crossed, at least one version of Lara will cross 2025’s finish line! My Colourfully Sarah pattern for Halloween Magic has come to a halt, as my holiday didn’t leave much room for stitching. This is my on-the-go project, so hopefully this will be another one ticked off shortly.

As for the rest of those goals and the rest of the year, I think I’ll be a little bit more realistic and try and tick off a couple of current WIPs before I tackle anything else. I tend to get fixated one hobby, but with being away, all is up in the air and with four books to finish, a manuscript to edit, and five WIPs, that quilt might have to stay in the cupboard that little bit longer. Sorry, Steve!

Completions or not, I’m pleased with what I’ve done, but most importantly for me, I’m just heading over to whatever project takes me in that moment. I’m enjoying going with the flow at the minute, and if I finish something, great – if I don’t, then that’s fine, too.

I’ll be back next week to catch up with Adam to see how he’s getting on, so be sure to check back then. However if you’re enjoying The Craft Room’s posts, tips and tricks, be sure to subscribe below so you never miss a post from us! ⤵️✨
