As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, autumn arrives with its fabulous display of colour. A favourite season of mine, it would be silly not to write about the colours of autumn!

As leaves transform into a tapestry of burnt oranges, golden yellows and deep burgundies, the early morning skies glow differently, with misty purples and blues to start our days. Autumn (IMO) seems to be tailor made for crafters, inviting us to pick up our favourite project, wrap ourselves in warmth and bring a little piece of autumn indoors. The comfort of a warm drink, Gilmore Girls on repeat and the cosy textures of a new project being started is just bliss! Now I am fully aware we aren’t officially in autumn yet; however, this post is to inspire you to take a look at some of our Yarnsmiths yarns that may inspire that next project!

One of our standout ranges for this season is Lagoon, both DK and Chunky, especially the shade Autumn Sunset. With its rich blend of oranges, purples, blues and reds, it’s the perfect shade to be carrying with you this September. Other shades such as Chuuk Lagoon and Nanuya Levu are also beautiful, and reflect this transitional season. Chuuk is brighter than Autumn Sunset, and we see a lot of crafters using it with a nice solid shade like Cream or Parchment. Nanuya is multiples of rich greens throughout the yarn, which are great for those who don’t like the typical autumn colour palette. It’s beautifully fresh and warming all at once 🌿 The soft and smooth acrylic makes it perfect for shawls or cowls, and the gentle colour transitions mean you don’t have to worry about weaving in those pesky ends. Lagoon, like other variegated yarns, typically works well in larger projects, where the variegation really shows. We have some gorgeous free patterns on our website which would work well.

Now, if you didn’t know (and I will be asking questions if you didn’t!) our Yarnsmiths 120 ranges are perfect for autumn projects. Think mustards, deep rusts, mossy greens and warm browns. These shades are ideal for colourwork sweaters, cardigans and other cute accessories. As the 120 range comes in Create, Merino and Cotton DK, you are spoilt for choice for fibre content. You can experiment with Create DK, which is our super budget friendly, but high quality acrylic range, or you can add a bit of luxury to a project with Merino DK, which matches perfectly to Create and Cotton. We’ve added Merino DK Heathers and Kid Mohair Silk to our Yarnsmiths range, which makes it easy to experiment with different fibres and styles of work.
One of the best things about crafting is playing with colour. You can mix our variegated yarns, such as Lagoon, Play or Nirvana, with coordinating solid shades from our 120 ranges.
Autumn really is the time for slowing down and embracing the colder months that are ahead. Crafting during this season isn’t just about making things, it’s about enjoying the process, relaxing into projects and experimenting with colour (plus any excuse to hunker down and get cosy!). So, whether you’re crocheting a blanket, a statement shawl, or just a simple pair of mittens, you’ll have endless inspiration from our Yarnsmiths range. Set aside an evening, light a candle, make a nice drink and surround yourself with your next few projects! Toodaloo for now 🌿✨🍂🌈💖
