The Stitchuation 🧵 All Things Autumnal

We’re officially well into September now and the winds of change are upon us! We’re going to be taking more of a seasonal approach for the next couple of months, so we thought we’d have a walk through the proverbially crisp leaves and straight into Autumn. As us crafters know, we’re keen to get ahead of our makes, so let’s take a look at some of our latest autumnal kits and favourites so far!

Autumn Leaves 🍂

We love seeing the trees change their colours year on year and burnt oranges, lime greens and mustard yellows are the hues of the season. The kits we’ve selected offer these in abundance, as well as a striking final piece once complete.

We’ve mentioned this previously on other editions of The Stitchuation, but for those who may not be in the know, Bothy Threads house a wealth of wonderful artists whose works are transformed into needlecraft kits by the company themselves. Lizzy Spikes’s Conker Window kit is no different, as foxes frolic under the moonlight and changing leaves, peppering the piece with wonderful hues of oranges underneath the midnight sky.

Keeping with the wildlife and woodlands, we’re continuing to see a spike in popularity of these themes when it comes to children’s rooms and babies nurseries. Offering a stunning neutral palette in more autumnal and earthy tones, Vervaco’s Forest Animal height chart will not only be purposeful, it’ll serve as a cherished keepsake for years to come.

We adore similar kits that you can swap out through the year; Oh Sew Bootiful’s Hello Autumn offers motifs of the season, where Little Dove Designs’ Heart of Autumn uses stunning pattern repeats across nature in this version of the range. Yet its the beautifully ‘framed’ Four Seasons Autumn kit from Vervaco that has us obsessed for these rotational pieces.

Sunflower golds and rich reds feature alongside classic autumnal shades to invite your gaze to the idyllic focal point of the cute little cottage. French knots and back stitching add even more detail to the piece, as the technique lines the gate, windows and gourds in the pattern’s foreground. Whether it’s for yourself or a loved one, we’re sure crafting this piece will offer a wonderful moment of calm once complete.

Absolutely Gord-geous 🧡

You can’t move for a pumpkin this side of the year and we can never get enough! No matter the shade, we love seeing gourds and the like scattered around for decorations. Starting off strong with these beauties of the season, The Crafty Kit Company’s Painting With Wool collection offers the perfect Pumpkin kit. This needle felting kit includes full instructions on how to take your kit from materials to masterpiece! We adore the colour choices for this one, as introducing greens and blue tones to this palette works so incredibly well against the chestnut background.

Little Dove Designs is making another appearance with their Pumpkin Cottage sampler, featuring a beautiful sentiment stitched around ‘ribboned’ repeats. Whether you bring it out each year to switch up your decor or leave it up all year long, it’s sure to bring a smile to those who see it.

Another return visitor is Vervaco with their Autumn kit. This set of three allows you to complete them all for you or split them up and offer as gifts. Sunflowers bloom, toadstools poke through the earth and stacked gourds sit around blossoms, all in vivid tones reflecting the time of year. Each piece appears to pop out of their ‘frames’, reminding us that nature will always bloom where its planted, no matter the season.

Toad-stooly Awesome 🍄

Whilst we’re on our little ‘walk through the woods’, the thought of seeing these bright toadstools on the forest floor certainly brings a smile. Much like the woodland theme, we’ve seen a spike in kits featuring toadstools more and more and it’s clear that it’s showing no signs of slowing down, either.

Hannah Wrendale of Wrendale Designs always offers us the cutest snapshots of what may be happening in the countryside. Bothy Threads have, once again, perfectly translated Hannah’s artwork into a kit for us to work through. Featuring their signature Wrendale speckled aida, The Fairy Ring kit features back stitching and French knots to add subtle detailing to the piece.

Rico’s on trend as always, as their latest release features an entire collection dedicated to toadstools. Whether its underneath plates full of deliciousness or draped as a covering, The Fly Agaric Tablecloth offers a punch of vivacity whichever side of teatime you find yourself on.

As for wall decorations, the Traced Mushroom Wreath embroidery kit offers different stitches across a variety of motifs, whereas the Small Traced Mushroom kit displays two toadstools in different stages of growth, yet still stunning in detail. Cross stitch kits in similar designs are also available to suit that skill set. To shop their full toadstool collection, simply click HERE.

The Crafty Kit Company have been creating more than just kits, they’ve also been busy creating new Stick & Stitch packs for us all! Featuring a main ‘hero’ image and a smattering of smaller designs, their designs are sure to keep you inspired and hunting for other things you can find to make your own.

Of course, we’re fawning over all things Funghi this month and there’s plenty to play around with in their Toadstools pack. Each sheet eradicates the need to trace or transfer the design, as all you need to do is…Stick & Stitch! The stabiliser is soluble, so once you’ve completed your design, simply wash it away and voila!

This Is Halloween 🎃

We couldn’t do an autumnal feature and not include some wonderfully scary stock! With Halloween approaching for us crafters, we thought it best to get you in the spirit – ghosts or otherwise!

Bothy Threads always comes through with some stunning pieces and this year’s delights are no different. Santoro London’s Gorjuss range is back in the warehouse with some new girlies, as Pumpkin Perch takes centre stage at the pumpkin patch! Sat atop a gourd with an illuminated Jack O’Lantern next to her, this doll is surrounded by sweeties and falling leaves on beautifully mixed purple and orange aida.

Another highlight from Bothy’s latest drop is the Happy Halloween wall hanging. Featuring artwork from Kate Garrett, this pennant shows a red squirrel and fox club getting ready for October 31st on a blustery day! This kit features all you’ll need to take this from materials to pennant, including clear instructions. So cute!

Rounding out this month’s post, we’re loving Hawthorn Handmade’s Stick & Stitch Gothic Tales! Featuring 11 designs, there’s something for any Halloween lover. Whether its a vial of poison, a creepy house bathed in a full moon’s light or a cat with a sinister plan, embroidering these is sure to be a scream. The scariest thing will be trying to choose which one to stitch first!
