What a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it month it’s been! December has come and pretty much gone in the blink of an eye, yet thankfully, we’ve had time to stop and take stock (literally) of some fabulous new collections to the department.
I, for one, am excited to tell you what’s been arriving and coming next; I think you will be, too! Let’s see what’s been happening in department for the month of December ⤵️
Bedford Park – Morris & Co. 💐
Coming in straight away with a heavy hitter it’s another stunning collaboration between the team at FreeSpirit and Morris & Co.
Icons sit alongside newcomers in the latest collection, named Bedford Park, and it’s one that’s sure to excite the Morris & Co. fans among us. With vibrant colourwork and intriguing details, this range sits perfectly alongside its colleagues, yet still stands tall alone.
Via their site, FreeSpirit talks of the newness in the latest collaboration:
“In contrast, designs new to this collection, such as The Savaric and Monkshood, reveal hidden design treasures and new heritage stories. Campanula, a pattern of great complexity, bursts with radical colour combinations while Yew & Aril provides a beautiful coordinating fabric. Combining the whimsical with the untamed this is a colour-rich Morris & Co., collection as you’ve never seen it before.”

With this past year seeing quite the spike Morris & Co. designs from numerous places, especially on the high street, it’s clear that both FreeSpirit and Morris & Co. have continued to work harmoniously in bringing a new collection to the arena. Keeping those classic, quintessential designs key to the range, they’ve still managed to offer something that feels new to quilters, in working in these newer designs that we’ve not seem them work with previously.

Hello Alice – Ruby Star Society 🐰
Next up is another fun retelling of a tale that’s dear to the hearts of many a fabric designer! We’ve seen Tula Pink’s version of Alice in Wonderland, alongside a collection from the V&A of the same topic. However for 2025, Sarah Watts from the wonderful pool of talent that is Ruby Star Society, offers her take on a classic in her latest collection, Hello Alice.
Sarah Watts and her art style are very well-known and celebrated in the fabric world, with her collaborations under the collective of Ruby Star Society full of whimsy, wonderfully executed concepts and individuality. When talking of the inspiration, the story has always been something that Sarah wanted rework and add her own flair to. Moda further states via their catalogue:
“In Hello Alice you’ll find all the makings of a tea party, stacks of pages and books, fields of chatty flowers, and hares running out of time. If you look closely you’ll see a few surprises too!
Sarah aimed to highlight all of the whimsical nature of the story while giving it her own narrative twist. Hello Alice also features a more vibrant and modern color palette that fits right in with Ruby Star Society.”

The details within the collection really are the champions here; even the Falling Aces blender stands strong on its own, alongside its role as a pillar to the rest of the collection. The nods to the original that are peppered throughout both Tea Party and Rabbit Hole work so well, managing to keep the essence of the story present, as well as leaving room for Sarah’s own artistic, and modernised, interpretations.
Hello Alice is certainly a collection to make you smile, offering a sense of nostalgia to the present and every day. To take you even further down the rabbit hole, Ruby Star even have a free quilt pattern for further inspiration! Using the collection and its accompanying panel, the Hello Alice quilt brings a timeless feel even with this somewhat modernised rework. You can view and download the free quilt pattern HERE.
