Alex’s New Year Resolutions 🗓️

by Woolly Worker

on

Back in 2025, we spent some time with our fellow Woolly Workers to ask what their New Year’s Resolutions were. We had some wonderfully crafty answers, along with some that challenged the typical pressured feeling of the age-old trend.

Although making plans and setting yourself goals can be a fun way to challenge yourself, giving yourself a little breathing room around these ideas and room for fluctuation can be quite the refreshing viewpoint. So while we hope for a prosperous new year ahead, let’s give ourselves some grace when adding to our mental lists for the things we wish to achieve going forward. Whether there’s something on your resolutions list or not, we hope you have a wonderful 2026!

Without further ado, let’s dive into our chat with Social Media Manager Alex, to see what she may have planned for the coming months ⬇️✨

Hi, Alex! What lovely things have you made in 2025?

Hi Vic, thanks so much for asking me to join in with this. 2025 has been the year of UFO, I just haven’t had much inspiration to complete any of my ongoing WIP’s, although I am happy to start new projects at any given time.

I did finish recently a new hat by Realm Designs, using our Yarnsmiths Kid Mohair Silk Hand Dye, and our Yarnsmiths Merino Heathers (modelled by Helena), and I did also complete a jumper the other night, although I decreased a little to much on the neck and it’s become a choking hazard. I’ll be unpicking that later! Other makes such as tops, blankets and a few amigurumi pieces are sat in my craft corner, which is representing a crochet morgue at the moment 🫠

Hey, it happens! What are you hoping to finish for 2026?

So, I started a vest in 2025 with some scraps of Merino DK, I’d love to get on with that, but the whole vest is worked in slip stitches, which is taking time to see any progress! It would be great to get that finished by next winter, but it’s also me, and I know it will be looking the same. Maybe I can unpick it and work it into something more wearable? I don’t even like vests that much! I would also like to finish a blanket for my friend and her husband, as it takes up so much room in my stash, which makes the area look a little overwhelming!

Are there any projects you’re hoping to start?

Obviously! I have so many projects I’d like to start. I recently started following Cosmaudi on Instagram and really love her designs. I’d like to learn more about Tunisian crochet, as the Spritz Sweater looks fabulous, and it’s worked in two strands which I quite like. I also have seen a few other projects from the recent Inside Crochet (Celestial Issue).

The Nebula Top by Simone Francis looks beautiful, and I think it could work up quite nicely in our Summer Meadow for a spring/summer cover up? The Summer Meadow is a linen/cotton mix in fibres, and the colours are so beautiful for that time of year. I’m thinking either Nigella and Buttercup, to follow the original design, or Buttercup and Fox Glove!

Oh, absolutely – a wonderful blend of tones, there! Are there any other resolutions that you’d like to share that may be non-crafting related?

I bought my first house in the summer with my boyfriend, which has been a labour of love! I’d really like to get started on a few rooms, including the kitchen and main bedroom. I’ve become a bit of a limewash lover, so someone will need to remove the paint brush from my hands if I go limewash mad.

The kitchen will have a cottage feel, with yellow cupboards and blue accents, and I have so many scaffolding boards that will hopefully be built into a table. I am excited to get my hands on a power tool, and get learning (thankfully my brother is a cabinet maker, so I am not going in completely blind)

I’ve also started learning to draw/design on Procreate (Thanks to an old work colleague, Jess!). I’m so used to pen to paper/ paint to paper, so when I did my first few bits using Procreate, it was like learning from scratch.

I don’t know if I will continue to use it, but the thought of buying brushes and scribbling on my iPad for hours is fun, but the rise of AI designs gives me the ick, and I don’t want any digital work to be compromised…! We shall see.

I also promised myself that I would finish designing and getting my back piece tattoo, it’s a LOT of time, and commitment to the drawing, booking, sitting and paying (!) but I feel unfinished without it! Wish me luck!

Good luck, Alex – you’ve got this! Thank you so much for taking part in this year’s round of resolutions; I think I can speak for us all when I say we all can wait to see what you create and achieve in 2026! ✨

I’ll check in with Alex in June and perhaps she’ll have an update for us! Be sure to check back next week for our next set of New Year’s Resolutions. If you’d like to share yours, we’d love to hear them! Tag us in your posts using #WWResolutions – we can’t wait to see what you might be making for next year! đź“…
