Each month we get to chat with a designer, and this month is no different. Amy Perry has burst onto the crochet scene in recent years, and we’re so lucky to have had a chat with her and about crafting!

Tell us a little bit about yourself – your background, general day to day life, hobbies (other than crafting)
Hey! My name is Amy Perry and I am the person behind the Instagram account CrochetedWithHoney. I am 35 years old and I am from Cardiff in South Wales. I am a mum of two teenage boys and I have been married for 10 years. My passion is crochet blankets, I have dabbled with other projects like teddies, but can never get the hang of the fiddly bits so I stick to blankets – the bigger the better! I have also started designing blanket patterns over the last few years which I am really enjoying, too.
When and why did you start crafting?
I started crocheting about 12 years ago; I’d seen a crochet owl on facebook and I really wanted to give it a go. Safe to say I failed miserably, but because I owned a hook and a few balls of yarn I decided to see what else I could make, I stumbled across Bella Coco’s YouTube channel and the rest is history ✨
Do you have specific inspiration behind any of your projects?
I take inspiration from everything, Pinterest, Seasonal colours… even clothing in supermarkets! I love seeing different colour palettes, especially ones you wouldn’t think would work but really do. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing the colours build up together and the finished project.
Can you tell us about your favourite designs so far?
That’s a toughy! If I had to choose one it would be my Vintage Rainbow Granny stripe pattern. I am obsessed with granny squares, and I love how versatile and beautiful they are. My Vintage Rainbow pattern has the same granny square vibes but with a modern twist, and works up quickly.

If you are having a creative block, how do you inspire yourself to get back in the creative zone?
If I am ever stuck for inspiration my favourite place to go is my own Instagram and scroll back to some of my first ever blankets I’ve made to inspire me. Pinterest is also a amazing place to scroll through for some inspo!
Does your home reflect your crafting passion?
Sadly, only one room in my house reflects my crocheting and that’s my craft room, which I am so lucky to have. It’s full of all my yarn and accessories and all my blankets that I’ve made. It’s such a relaxing room, but I am determined to crochet it up a bit more with some wall art when I have the chance.
What designers are you loving at the moment?
I don’t have one favourite account. I have two favourite instagram accounts to flick through and they are millymakes and littledovecrochet. They are so talented and fantastic at not only blankets, but putting together colour palettes. I could scroll through their accounts for hours. Very talented ladies!

Do you have any tips for readers developing a passion for crafting?
The best tip I could give for someone who wants to develop a passion for craft is just do it! You never know if you will enjoy it or be good at it unless you try. I work full time as a cleaner and at work they host charity stalls, so recently I’ve been helping out with some of my colleagues to teach them how to crochet. It’s been so fun and now we do a craft club once a month, which is a dream to attend!
What are three things you would love to learn/master/execute?
I would love to learn how to do mosaic crocheting. I see it all the time on my Instagram and it always looks so beautiful, but I’ve never found the time to sit and watch a tutorial on it. Fingers crossed I can at some point, as I would love to give it a go. I also want to try out teddies again – normally when I crochet blankets I love a mindless one where I don’t have to count or even think about what I am doing. Teddies are different and I would love to give it another go.
Any tips for getting into crafting?
Just do it! You never know where it could lead you, I never thought from that one little craft shop I visited 12 years ago that I would be a content creator sharing all my beautiful blankets with over 70,000 people. It’s a dream come true and I also work with so many fantastic brands now – I am an incredibly lucky lady!
