Darker evenings, cooler mornings, golden leaves on the ground – Hello Autumn! With the focus shifting to cosy, indoor hobbies, we have selected some new needlecraft goodies from the warehouse to keep your hands busy and your mind calm as the year moves on.

We’re beginning with these three cute little designs from Heritage Crafts. This sweet trio of birds feature the delicate detailing you have come to expect form Heritage Crafts, along with splashes of vibrant colour and rich tones. The striking green and red shades of the Hummingbird are brought to life on the white background, whilst the wren and coal tit, in their more subtle colour-schemes, are beautifully detailed and life-like. The stitching outlines are broken up with backstitch, to echo the feathers of the little creature. All stitched on 14 count wide aida, in a range of DMC stranded cotton shades, everything you need is included with these little feathered friend designs. Designed by Susan Ryder for Heritage Crafts, and quick to stitch at a very manageable design size of 6.5cm square, we love this cute little trio!

Next, we are welcoming in these two charming embroidery kits from Trimits. Woodland, on the left, is perfect for this time of year, with its bold toadstool and richly coloured foliage. Stitched on cotton fabric, which has been pre-printed with the design, the cheerful colours and strong outlines make this project perfect for those stitchers at the beginning of their creative journey, as well as those who are more experienced in the craft. The texture of the various stitches, which are all explained in the instructions included with the kit, gives the design a charming, 3-dimensional look, really bringing to life the rich colours of the woodland scene. The Moon kit, on the right, is in a rich, striking combination of navy blue and gold and, with the addition of sequins and metallic threads, really brings the sparkle and shine! The moon’s sleepy face, with their luxurious eyelashes, is calm and serene amongst the twinkling stars and planets, whilst the sequins bring texture and detail to the design. Stitched on pre-printed dark blue fabric, this kit, like Woodland, includes everything you will need to create your own beautiful embroidered picture – including the wooden hoop, which you can use for both stitching the project and displaying it afterwards.

Finally, on this stroll around our needlecraft section’s new goodies, we found these three amazing Mini Matchbox kits from The Crafty Kit Company. Each kit fits perfectly into a compact little box with a sliding lid, to keep everything safely and conveniently together. Each little kit includes a keyring and a tiny wooden hoop, allowing you to frame your cross stitch when you have finished it, and transform it into a keyring – how cute would they look on your keys or dangling from your bag?! The kit on the left is called You’re Otterly Amazing and, whilst I can’t get onboard with the pun 🙂, the little couple are so sweet, holding paws as they float around. The middle keyring is called You’re a Fungi (of course!), and the bold, simple outlines of the colourful toadstool are so cheerful and jolly that it would be hard to resist its charm. And finally, on the right, Sending a Hedgehug features, of course, a smiling hedgehog! Whether its for you, or a sweet, hand-crafted gift for someone you love, we think these cute little boxes of crafty goodness will deliver a big smile to the faces of everyone who sees them! And if otters, hedgehogs and mushrooms aren’t your thing, there are many more cute and fun choices in this range!

That’s all from our needlecraft tour this month, but do drop in on Alex and Vic to see what they have for you in Yarns and Fabric this month!
