Another Fabric Focus, another fabulous collection to take a closer look at. This week, we’re taking a look at Lewis & Irene’s Honey Bee!

Lewis & Irene are no strangers to a bee-centric collection. They explain via their website:
“(Honey Bee is) Inspired by our bestselling ‘Queen Bee’ fabrics but with a winter twist and featuring gold metallic elements.”
We can agree that this has certainly been accomplished! Using warm lavender, rich greens and deep charcoal, Honey Bee showcases nature’s staple in a variety of ways across beautiful tones. But first, let’s take a closer look at their gold metallic – a feature that they deliver on, so exceptionally well.
Liquid Gold

We’ve talked in the past about Lewis & Irene’s use of pearl elements and their glow in the dark ranges, and their metallics sit alongside these elements perfectly.
Following their typical high standard and quality, the metallics used here, and for any collection, really elevate each design without fear of tackiness.
We love how much the gold pops on the Starburst in Fawn – so pretty!
Francesca’s Favourites
We haven’t caught up with Francesca in a little while – she’s quite the busy bee, herself! We asked her to choose her top three designs within the collection; here’s what she had to say:
“Honey Bee is one of my favourite Lewis & Irene collections, mainly because I love bees! They are simply beautiful (have you ever seen a macro of a bee sleeping on a flower?! Aww!) and they are one of the many little miracles of our nature. They are a tiny but fundamental tassel of the system, yet sadly, so endangered. Using them for art, illustration and crafts is such a powerful tool to raise awareness on the issue.“
“The collection gives a touch of elegance to a subject that is most often represented in an overly colourful way for children or a “classic country style”. I really enjoy the slightly unusual style for the subject used here; maybe because of the hint of William Morris in the patterns – perhaps it was a slight inspiration!”

“I’ve chosen these three designs because I like how the charcoal background brings the focus on the bees and the flowers, to brightening up the flowers with the warm lavender tone of the blender’s leaves. I find also very intriguing how the simple checkerboard background gives such an industriousness vibe to the bees, especially with its use of the gold metallic. I love it!”
Sweet Like Honey
Every now and again, Lewis & Irene offer a panel their collections. We’ve seen cushions, bunting and even quilt panels, yet occasionally, we get a lovely apron added into the mix.
For those of you who enjoy cooking or baking, crafting yourself an apron really is a joyous way to mix a little more love into those recipies. Carving time out to make yourself something really is the ultimate gift, and to use that item when you’re taking part in your passion will make that experince even more enjoyable.
The Honey Bee Apron panel includes pockets, two sets of straps and the apron itself; all you’ll need to do is grab some backing fabric and voila – a brand new accessory for yourself or a loved one!
